20 Questions for 2011… Answer One

Simple Mom posted over on (In)Courage yesterday her list of 20 questions to reflect on the past 365 days.  It’s a great list to discuss with family and friends over dinner the next few weeks.  A little bit at a time or all at once, the answers may be interesting to you and others.  You can go to her blog to download the document in full but I’ve posted a few of my favorites:

1. What was the single best thing that happened this past year?  This is a no brainer… His name starts with an “N” and he is happiness embodied in a person.

6. Pick three words your spouse would use to describe your 2011 (don’t ask them; guess based on how you think your spouse sees you).  Hard.  Hectic. Good.

8. What were the best books you read this year?  1000 Gifts by Ann VosKampThe Grace of God by Andy Stanley.  With: Reimagining the Way You Relate to God by Skye Jethani.

10. What was your biggest personal change from January to December of this past year?  My body. Pregnancy will change that in a big way. Okay besides that: I am learning to receive.  Never have I felt more needy than this year. It’s been super humbling the way our friends and family have given of themselves to our family this year.  I am grateful and spurred on to be more generous as well.  I will never forget the kindness shown to us this year.

14. In what way(s) did you grow in your relationships with others?  This was the year I finally was able to let go of some of my unrealistic expectations of my parents.  They love me more than anyone or anything on this earth and gave me their best.   What I used to think I needed from them, turns out I don’t really need… I’m learning that Christ is sufficient.  Finally being able to let go of these has set me free to love them more authentically and enjoy my parents more than I ever have.

15. What was the most enjoyable part of your work (both professionally and at home)? Getting to speak at a Women’s Retreat for another church.  Getting to watch people discover how they are wired and bring their contributions to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Being on maternity leave all summer long and enjoying my baby and big boys while they were home from school.

16. What was the most challenging part of your work (both professionally and at home)?  See #15.

19. What was biggest thing you learned this past year? Not only does God know what we need… He knows exactly when we need it.  If you are looking for him to provide {friends, financially, a baby, a spouse, a job, help, healing} trust Him to show up with it not a minute before or a minute after it is necessary.

20. Create a phrase or statement that describes 2011 for you.  Expect the unexpected and know it will all be redemptive.

Would you be willing to share one or more of your answers?

Happy New Year!
